Internet Explorer is outdated and starting to not work when viewing more modern websites.
Both Chrome and Internet Explorer do the same thing – show you websites.
The problem is the Internet Explorer may not show the website properly. All Windows computers come with Internet Explorer pre-installed. Our recommendation is to use Chrome for viewing websites and retiring Internet Explorer.
However, to add to the confusion, we still see some old websites not showing in the more modern browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. Because of that, we don’t remove Internet Explorer. We just ignore it and use it on an as-needed basis.
All of our computers already have Chrome installed. It should also be fully updated. However, things happen so we offer the steps to download and installed Chrome.
- Start Internet Explorer like normal.
- Go here to the download page and click the “Download Chrome” button.
- Click the “Accept and Install” button.
- You may see a “Run” button at the bottom of the screen. Click it.
- It may also download automatically.
You will this round, colored circle on your desktop. This is your Chrome browser.
There’s not much to configure. When installed you will see Chrome open up. Scroll down and agree to any prompts showing.
The only thing to be aware of is that you will want to import your Internet Explorer Favorites.
- Start Chrome.
- Click the three vertical dots at the upper right corner.
- Click Bookmarks > Import Bookmarks and Settings.
- Change the browser to import from to “Internet Explorer”.
- Click the “Import” button.
- You are done.
You will see a folder at the top called “Imported From IE”. If you do not see this bar at the top of Chrome, click the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the screen, then click Bookmarks > Show Bookmarks Bar
Chrome will put all the old Favorites into this one folder. You can click them like normal. You can RIGHT click them and rename or delete them also.
To created new bookmarks, click the icon to the left of the website address and drag it to the bookmarks bar. The bookmark will be saved. You can click and drag the bookmark left and right to position it as desired.
You can RIGHT click the bookmark and rename it something more descriptive also.
